I have another book manuscript that needs to be prepared for digital publishing.
The manuscript is a .docx and is attached, along with images that are to appear in the book. As you'll see in the manuscript, it calls for the images to be inserted at various points.
Exactly how many images should be inserted on each page is up to you--they w...ill need to be large enough to be clearly readable. I think 2 per page will work. There are a couple cases where the images are too long to legibly display on the screen (a couple of the "Inglip" and "Dogfort" images, for example). Those could be cut in half and displayed on separate pages.

Smalll publishing company needs someone to convert our files of a print book into e-book files. (For Kindle, B & N (Nook), Apple store, and Sony Reader). My understanding is that two formats will be needed: One for Kindle, and e-Pub for all the rest, but we want someone who knows the file types needed.
We would like to work with someone experience...d at this, who is detail oriented and accurate, reliable, and who knows how to make the e-book user friendly. (including. an interactive TOC, interactive index, and whatever else e-book readers will find useful and attractive.) Our book has 61 chapters, and we want the same simple icon to appear at the beginning of each chapter along with the chapter title, that appears in the print book.
We prefer someone who can complete the job fairly soon. (Preferably within 1 week.) and someone with good communication skills.
Current File Form: We have the print book in an In-Design file, and also as a PDF.
For the e-book version we want to change how citations and footnotes are handled. So there will be some relatively minor editing in addition to the reformatting. The edits we want are on a clear list of changes to be made: (21 citations will be removed from the chapters, and instead there will be a "Citations" page which we have in one .doc file) In addition, around 10 footnotes will be changed to make work for e-book formatting.
We would like to have a detail-oriented person who can make these changes accurately, and who knows how to make the formatting look good in e-book form.
*We also have Mobi and e-pub files of this book. However these files have some problems with them, so we don’t know if it will be better to begin with these files, or with the print book In-Design file. The Mobi and e-pub files come from someone who took on the conversion job but abandoned it partially done and with some serious problems in the files. The Kindle file appears to have much of the book in there twice, and Chapter 7 is missing in the first version. The interactive TOC appears to link primarily to the second version. So we need someone capable of deciding which version to use, and if using the e-book files, of sorting this out to be sure the content matches the print book correctly, and that all chapters are in there, only once.
*These e-book files DO already have the chapter titles and icon done for each chapter (my understanding is he did these as images), and the book cover image also there.

I have 15 stories that are currently in English & Chinese (it is a dual-language book). These 15 books are being translated to 13 additional languages (i.e. - German/Chinese, French/Chinese, Russian/Chinese, etc.).

I will have many different projects so it is easier to use this project hourly billed for them all.
The first task is to convert an ebook for kindle (price $20, 4 hours x $5). I will write 4 ...hours a week for 20 weeks but we will work as many hours as required.

1. Approximately 400 pg technical book that includes the following:
(a) About 400 images with captions
(b) Sidebar notes, tips, & cautions (text objects)
(c) 3 tables of conte...nts
(d) Outline numbering & bulleted lists
(e) Cross-references throughout
(f) Extensive index
2. The book's formatted for an 8x10 print version.
(a) The book was produced with InDesign CS3 v 5.0.4 (Windows platform).
(b) Religious application of styles to everything (paragraph, nested,character & objects) but there are always some instances of manual formatting that squeak through. I believe that you can easily take the InDesign file & provide my desktop publisher with a list of the manual formatting that remains, so they can take care of it before you begin the conversion. If this isn't the case, let me know.
(c) Each image is anchored to its own paragraph with the exception of a few icons that are inline with the text.
(c.1) The widest image is 6.75". I want recommendations for best practices. For example, what's the workflow that produces the best images & best file format? I have read that images can be scaled by percentage, so for example, will the 6.75" images require rescaling in Photoshop or can you just use them as they are & have them tagged to display 100% of the width of the user's screen?
(c.2) The final version of the images placed in the book are .png color working space set to Abobe RGB (1998). Below is the workflow for the images & note that the files were saved each step of the way, so you can have the files in the format that is best for the epub, just let me know. Workflow was:

You will receive a pdf that identifies the instances where the sidebars should be placed
other than below the paragraph they are anchored to.
(e) There are a few tables, but the book is primarily outline numbered procedures.
(f) The index was produced with InDesign's index function, so it's embedded in the book.Do any of the epub formats support hyperlinks from index to text?
3. Must provide work samples of a similar technical book--print version and ebook version of the same books.
4. Must provide a workflow, time frame & have patience to walk me through this process because it's new to me.
5. Must state upfront any formatting/design issues with the conversion of my book in general & for each type of epub in particular (Kindle, Kindle Fire, Nook, Sony, Adobe Digital, smartphones, etc.). I understand that there are trade-offs with the various epub formats & I do not want any surprises with the final products. So you will provide me a list of deliverables, that is, epub formats that you will convert my book to with a list of the supported devices for each & the trade-offs on formatting required for each epub format specific to my book.
6. Must proof your own work. I don't want to have to go through the
book & do this for you.Quality is my top priority.

3. Must provide work samples of a similar technical book--print version and ebook version of the same books.
4. Must provide a workflow, time frame & have patience to walk me through this process because it's new to me.
5. Must state upfront any formatting/design issues with the conversion of my book in general & for each type of epub in particular (Kindle, Kindle Fire, Nook, Sony, Adobe Digital, smartphones, etc.). I understand that there are trade-offs with the various epub formats & I do not want any surprises with the final products. So you will provide me a list of deliverables, that is, epub formats that you will convert my book to with a list of the supported devices for each & the trade-offs on formatting required for each epub format specific to my book.
6. Must proof your own work. I don't want to have to go through the
book & do this for you.Quality is my top priority.
7. Must sign an NDA.

Convert a PDF version of my book interior to Ebook format (Barnes & Noble, iPad, etc.)
The book is 174 pages and has 6 charts.

Please note... I have ebook conversion software, Calibre and Sigil, and the automatic conversion from PDF to Ebook is not good (many formatting, cap...italization, and graphic issues). So I am posting this job on Elance because someone will need to manually convert this book... if it was as easy as running it through some computer program and it was done, I would have done that myself.). Please understand that the job will require a more time consuming process than just running it through a PDF to Ebook converter software tool.
